I'm uncertain whether I can perform an "in-place" upgrade to Windows 10, which would preserve my files and apps, or if I'll need to do a total clean install and rebuild the system from scratch. If I decide to go ahead with the upgrade, I plan to use my paid activation key to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro. I'm considering purchasing a Windows 10 Pro OEM product key and using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to download the Windows 10 Pro ISO from Microsoft. Since the enterprise version of the OS was installed by the system builder, and I don't have access to the Microsoft Volume Licensing Program, I won't be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Enterprise. As January 2023 approaches, when extended security support for my current operating system (Windows 8.1 Pro Enterprise) will end, I'm weighing whether it's worth trying to extend the life of my system by a few years by upgrading to Windows 10 Pro OS. My system is an i7-4770K Haswell machine, about seven years old, currently running Windows 8.1 Pro Enterprise.
